For Web4Lib subscribers who might be interested, a major revision, v2.40, of "WebIdeaTree," or "WIT," is just out.
WIT is the "site-builder" program I've written about in the current issue of Online. It completely takes the pain out of creating, organizing, and maintaining your Web or Intranet site.
It's a powerful yet simple automatic Web-site-builder or -generator.
Working from a single site content/source file and CSS templates, you can produce a Website with the exact look & feel that you want. You can use as little or as much custom HTML coding as you wish. (or get a one-time configuration help session from
an HTML-expert buddy)
Working from a single source file, WIT builds your full site in seconds.
Tools include: WYSIWYG editor, embedded background & graphics functions, global search & replace for entire site, a site "outliner" or taxonomy-builder, a built-in site indexing module (with a controlled vocabulary function, no less), and
auto-upload via FTP. Plus you can copy & paste from your wordprocessor, browser, whatever.
You can create or update a site with a single click. Really.
I'm currently using it for the home page of an MLS class I'm teaching, of about 40 Web pages. Revision or complete re-building of the site takes under 2 seconds!
Full information and a demo download are available at <http://www.webideatree.com/>. It's cheap, too, $30 for a personal/non-profit license; $300 for a commercial
license.
[no commercial interests, etc., on my part]
WIT makes site maintenance a breeze. Definitely for the techno-klutz (myself included). I'm a full convert & have joined the choir, so to speak.
If you visit the site, be sure to take a look at the "Press Book" section. Loaded with user, shareware site awards, and printed reviews.
Cheers,
--ernest
